Dodge Viper 500 hp Vs Battery Electric Car – Drag Race

June 12, 2007 By: Lance Category: Eco-Innovations, Eco-Videos

In 2003, AC Propulsions redesigned its rather impractical lead acid battery powered EV called “tzero”, with lithium-ion batteries. 6,800 to be exact (Much like the Tesla Roadster). Removing the environmentally unfriendly NiMH batteries and replacing them with lithium-ion laptop batteries resulted in four times the power and reduced the car’s weight by 500 pounds. Tzero can travel 300 miles on a charge and accelerate 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The tzero is not commercially available.
Here is a video of the tzero vs a 500 horsepower Dodge Viper.

Just how far to push the tires and the drivers’ health is all that is left to test with the impressive torque capabilities of an electrically driven motor. I am undecided on a quiet race, though. Perhaps some music over loudspeakers during the races would enhance the atmosphere. Does this mean the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) will become something like National Torque Hackers Association?

Realize that since current can be controlled, the steering wheel could be fitted with a small touch screen LCD display where you could input the amount of acceleration you wanted or even govern a top speed. I like this idea, in that they could have a password interface that parents could restrict the power of a young new driver’s electric car to a modest boost of acceleration.

All sorts of new and innovative ideas and options just waiting to be added to these vehicles.
Then again, the public is still waiting for these vehicles.
