Googleplex’s 9,212 Solar Panels Switched On
Google switched on its impressive 1.6 megawatt solar installation covering the roofs of its Mountain View, CA headquarters, and even shading the parking lot which will also serve to recharge the planned 100 company hybrid plug-in vehicles. The 9,212 panels are capable of powering approximately 1,000 average California homes, and offset approximately 30% of the peak electricity consumption at the HQs. Google said its project is the largest solar installation to date on any corporate campus in the United States and one of the largest on any corporate site in the world.

Awesome! This has a cool factor that can’t be beat. I wonder, though, how many of the secret data centers will using solar panels too. Good work Google!
