I wanted to post about baby safety because, well: 1) Babies are obviously 1st priority and 2) one of my green blogger friends (The Accidental Environmentalist) is having a baby soon and I want to offer as much information as I can to support a healthy environment for the new one.
I was browsing the mainstream news channels and came across a report on compact fluorescent bulbs containing mercury. And although I was aware of that, to listen to the journalist explain it would have you immediately switch back to the less efficient incandescent bulbs. Even companies marketing CF bulbs were targeted by the fearful report as if they were part of a conspiracy to fill the world with mercury.
Unplug the clock and forget the batteries.
How cool are these little things! The greener your home, the less expensive your bill. Plus you can feel proud knowing your home is that much less dependent on the “grid”.
Here an incandescent and a compact fluorescent light is connected to a meter to show how much more efficient the fluorescent is than the old incandescent bulbs.
I couldn’t think of a better way to start this blog, than to post one of my favorite articles to date promoting environmentally beneficial products. All of these items are easily accessed online. I am especially excited about non toxic household cleaners.
