Today I want to write a post about failure. It is something that so many of us fear, but if you have the proper mindset, failure is impossible. In this post, I’m going to talk about exactly what I mean by this, and how you can succeed at anything you set your mind to.

What “Failure” Actually Is

“Failure” is defined very simply as “lack of success”. The life-changing realization that I want to share with you today is that lack of success is only true failure when you give up on what you are trying to achieve. If you are committed and determined in your mind and body, if you keep taking consistent action towards your goal, eventually you will achieve it. It’s inevitable. As Jim Rohn says, “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If not, You’ll find an excuse.”

Growth Mindset

A crucial part of becoming failure-proof in your own life is adopting a growth mindset. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, essentially it’s the idea that some people believe that you can grow and learn new skills, habits, and mindsets to succeed. The flip side to this is the people who have a “fixed” mindset — those who believe that you are born with a certain set of traits and skills and those things don’t change.

Be honest with yourself here as to which mindset you possess — there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a fixed mindset to begin with. To help you implement the idea of having a growth mindset, below I will be sharing some free resources to help you shift your mindset and eliminate the word “failure” from your vocabulary.

Determination

Determination is also a key component of succeeding no matter what. If you truly want to succeed, you need to have the grit to keep going even when things get tough or uncomfortable. In order to succeed, you will need to identify the obstacles that will stand in your way and find ways to overcome them. This is why a growth mindset is so important!

If you enter a situation with the determination to find solutions and opportunities rather than problems, you will be well set up to succeed at anything you set your mind to.

But I’ve Failed At Things In The Past… What’s That All About?

If you’re thinking “But I’ve failed at lots of things in the past… clearly it is a real thing”, let me explain. We have all made lots of mistakes in our lives, had some bad things happen to us, and given up on things we’ve tried to do. But now I’ll ask you: did you learn anything valuable from your mistakes? In all likelihood, those mistakes were just stepping stones on your path to success that were there to teach you. Mistakes provide you with the skills that you need to continue to grow. If you gave up on something you started because you thought it was too hard or for any other reason, you gave up, you didn’t fail.

This is not to say that giving up is bad in all instances — for example, if you begin going to school to become a lawyer and decide you hate it, it’s definitely okay (and beneficial) to follow your intuition and find something that you find fulfilling. What I’m trying to convey is that if you really, really want something and are determined to make it happen, you will eventually reach that end goal regardless of the obstacles you face.
